WE'RE HERE TO FILL THE NEED
Immigrants in immigration court do not have a right to government-appointed counsel.
The lack of legal representation has a profound impact on immigrants’ outcomes in removal proceedings.
Removal Defense Program
Our staff attorneys and volunteer attorneys work together to handle a full range of defensive cases for individuals in detention and those fighting their immigration court cases following release, including unaccompanied immigrant children and asylum seekers.
Counseling and Case Management Program
Our mental health therapist and case manager advocate for the best interests of our young clients inside and outside the immigration courtroom and focus on mitigating the trauma-related impact of immigration policies and enforcement. This program addresses the gap in post-release services for unaccompanied undocumented immigrant children, provides them with the resources they need to enhance their well-being, and helps them succeed and thrive in their new communities.
Opening Pathways to Legal Permanent Residency for Youths
Our staff attorneys and volunteer attorneys strive to provide security and stability for children and youth who are abused, abandoned, and/or neglected. Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is available to undocumented youth who have been abused, neglected, and/or abandoned and cannot be reunified with one or both parents; and for whom returning to their home country is not in their best interest. This protection opens a pathway to legal permanent residence and, eventually, citizenship.
Community Education
Our Know Your Rights: Train-the-Trainer workshops empower community advocates and partners with essential knowledge and practical tools so they are properly equip to educate immigrant communities about their fundamental rights during any interaction with ICE.
